Bishop H.M. Johnson, Jr., D.D.

Bishop H. M. Johnson, Jr. was born in Washington, D.C. on March 25, 1929, to the late Horace Sr. and Jennie Johnson. Bishop Johnson attended District of Columbia Public Schools. After completing High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he received an honorable discharged with the terminal rank of Staff Sergeant in 1952. In 1966 he married his loving wife, Mary T. Johnson.

Bishop Johnson was filled with the Holy Ghost at the Bibleway Apostolic Church in 1967. Possessing a love and a gift for teaching, he was led by the Lord Jesus Christ to study and receive training at the Bibleway Training Institute and the Bibleway Apostolic Junior College. He was later appointed Assistant Director of the same school. In 1973 Bishop Johnson continued his studies and graduated from the Washington Bible College/Capital Bible Seminary in Lanham, Maryland. He was a certified ETA (Evangelical Training Association) Approved Teacher from the National Association of Evangelicals, based in Wheaton, IL. After 33 years of service as an employee of the U.S. Federal Government, he retired from the Department of Interstate Commerce Commission (lCC) as an Accounting Technician in 1988.

Bishop Johnson continued his ministry in the Apostolic Overcoming Holy Church of God, Inc. in June 1975. He established the Friendship A.O.H. Church of God which originated in his apartment in July 1975 with the Lord Jesus Christ and his wife. In April 1976, they were blessed to move into a store front in Capital Heights, Maryland. During the year of 1979, Jesus Christ enabled Bishop and Mother Johnson to purchase their first church building in Deanwood Park, Maryland.

In June 1996, Bishop Johnson was consecrated Bishop, overseeing churches in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, and Northern Alabama. Bishop Johnson also served as the Director of the National Youth Department, member of the Executive Board and the Ordination Committee of the AO.H. Church of God, Inc.

In an act of faith, in 1991 Bishop Johnson decided to organize and establish Friendship Apostolic Church of God. The Friendship Apostolic Church of God was incorporated in the state of Maryland in February 1991. The first expansion of the Friendship Apostolic Church of God was established by Bishop Johnson in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the home of Troy and Wanda Sawyer in March 1990. Twenty years after the purchasing of the first church building, The Lord Jesus Christ enabled Bishop and Mother Johnson to build a new Church building in Hyattsville, Maryland.
