SISTER EARLENE MCLAURIN

70th Birthday-221.jpg

Sister Earlene McLaurin was known and loved by all the Saints at Friendship Apostolic Church of God.  She was a Missionary at heart, and known for her beautiful smile, and her fun-loving disposition.  She loved to share with others the message of Salvation and her testimony of how the Lord Jesus Christ had changed her life.

Sister McLaurin was affectionately referred to by our former Pastor, Bishop H. M. Johnson, Jr., as “Scofield” and considered a Pillar of the church.  Bishop Johnson named Sister McLaurin after the Scofield Study Bible because he could always count on her to eagerly and accurately recite the scriptures and their references during our Wednesday Bible classes.

Sister McLaurin served in many roles in the church.  As Church Clerk, every Sunday morning she would read the weekly announcements, record new member information, and publish the church’s annual Telephone Directory. If you ever forgot your information, you could count on Sister McLaurin to let you know (1) the day you joined the church, (2) when you were baptized in Jesus’ name, and (3) when you received the Holy Ghost.  Sister McLaurin also LOVED the Helping Hands Auxiliary, for which she served faithfully for many years as President.  Even when she became ill and relocated to North Carolina, she insisted that her sister Doris drive her up to Friendship for the Helping Hands Anniversary service.  The Saints were so excited and surprised to see her that day!  Sister McLaurin also served faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher, an Evangelical Training Association (ETA) Bible School Teaching staff member, a Missionary Band member, a Senior Choir member, a Pianist and at times, she would even step in as Organist.  During our annual Christmas Exercises, Sister McLaurin would even write and produce the entire Combined Adult Class Sunday School Presentation.  We thank our Lord Jesus Christ for her love for the Lord Jesus Christ and her willingness to work in His service.

Sister McLaurin thoroughly enjoyed fellowshipping with the Saints.  When we traveled out-of-town to fellowship with other churches, Sister McLaurin would organize our travels, schedule our rest stops and make sure everyone got back on the bus on-time!  She also enjoyed fellowshipping with the Saints at church dinners, anniversary celebrations and even birthdays.  Each time the church would celebrate a special occasion, Sister McLaurin would be right there, snapping pictures with her disposable Fujifilm cameras.  Then, after service, Sister McLaurin continued to fellowship with the saints and was even known to be one of the last ones to leave the church.

Not only did Sister McLaurin have a love for her church family, but she also loved her natural family very much.  She took joy in her travels to Rocky Mount, NC and never failed to ask the Saints to pray for her family members who lived there.

We truly thank our Lord Jesus Christ for blessing us to know and love Sister Earlene McLaurin.  She was saved, sanctified, filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost, and glad about Jesus!  She was truly a blessing to our church and will be greatly missed.
